Motorcycle Trip and “Gun Laws by State” by Bryan Ciyou

Motorcycle Trip and “Gun Laws by State” by Bryan Ciyou

A 21 day trip on a 1999 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic is as much fun as anything else to do in the summer time. In getting ready for the trip (as any gun tote’n citizen would do) I thought it would be important to know where I could carry my handgun and where they frowned on such things. So, where did I turn, my 2012 Edition of Gun Laws By State by Bryan Ciyou. You might ask yourself, “Well why is she talking about a book in her blog?” I don’t have a good reason other than I want to share what I thought and what happened. Starting off in Indiana, I have my life time carry permit from Read More

Gun Whisperer – You Have Questions, We Have Answers

Dear Gun Whisperer, I live in a large apartment complex and I don’t want to call attention to myself going to the range, but all the range bags look so, well, gun-like. What a girl to do? Looking for Discretion... Dear Looking for Discretion, This is an easy question for me. I don’t always like to advertise to my neighbors, either. You can use almost anything as a range bag. A Beach Tote works well, a gym bag, a diaper bag (assuming you are no longer using it for a little one, babies and lead do not mix). 5.11 Tactical makes some great backpacks that are discrete and very Read More

Handguns and High Heels

As a woman who shoots, it is amazing to me how often I hear “you don’t look like the type”.  Those of us who shoot came to it for our own reasons, some from fear, some for fun.  We come from all different backgrounds, professions and age groups.  We are young, old, short, tall, skinny, full figured, …  What we share is a love of the sport and often a strong sense that we are valuable and empowered.  We are smart, we are strong, and we enjoy having fun.  Many of us are professional women, educated, productive, and caring.  We are sisters, wives, moms... I have heard it so Read More

Dear Gun Whisperer, Can you offer some suggestions on how I can relate better to female students in my gun classes?  It has gotten back to me that I’ve made some women uncomfortable, and I can’t see <expletive deleted> why, but that is what I’m told. Signed, F&%(*$*)% Great Instructor Dear Sir, First, profanity is often a substitute for a poor vocabulary, or a sign that you just don’t care.  Either way…Miss Manners would tell you to stop and so would I.  A gun class can be intimidating for someone who is new and it is helpful if the instructor comes across Read More

NTYDTTRdayLogo4 (2)

Planning is in progress for this year’s National Take Your Daughter (and/or son) to the Range Day. This will be the second annual event.  Last year 35 ranges across the country hosted nearly 1,000 kids, many of whom were shooting for the first time. NTYDTTRD is under the umbrella of National Take Your Daughter to the Range Day, Inc, a non-profit corporation that was formed to oversee and raise money for the event. Founders Lynne Finch and Evan Carson are hoping that 100 ranges will come forward this year to host events and open the world of shooting up to kids ages six and up. The event Read More

I Hate Republicans…

R vs. D

Random Stranger, A man recently told me, out of the blue, “I hate Republicans!”  Now, I thought to myself at first, what brought that on?  And then, I have several questions come to mind.  Why would he say that to me, which by the way I am a registered Republican?  Why would someone in today’s society be so closed minded?  I just shook my head and went on about my business.  But, here is what I think about that statement… Let’s take a look at the definition of the Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, or maybe we need to look at just what defines a political party – a group Read More

Girls and Guns – what makes a girl want to buy a gun? Why is gun ownership for females on the increase? Is it for safety? How about self-defense? Do women feel that threatened in today’s world?
