2019 is a year for adventure and a new gun! I’ve always said I should have a gun for every year I am old. Not telling my age today…. So, how many guns do you have? My favorite firearm is a handgun. Of course, I have different handguns for different reasons. The gun I carry, the one I believe works best for me is a Smith & Wesson, .38 – 5 shot revolver. It’s light weight and fits in my purse, a concealed-carry purse. When competing in Cowboy Action Shooting, I have a brace of Rugers. I use the Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 caliber for competition. Mine are the Read More >>

The latest attempt to prevent mass murder is the adoption of “red flag” laws, whereby persons whose behavior or statements suggest that they might be a threat to others may be disarmed and prohibited from acquiring firearms. You might think that’s logical. Crazy people do often give plenty of warning that something running in the hamster cage isn’t a hamster at all. There are several problems with this solution: First is that mass murder is not just done with guns. I am currently writing a history of mass murder in America. I have identified 333 mass murders (3 or more dead Read More >>
Many of us are making New Year’s Resolutions, mine include more range time, and no falling (it was a rough year). But while I’m at it I’m looking at one of the sweet presents I got. A Gen 5 GLOCK 19! I love GLOCKs, they fit my hand perfectly. I can’t wait to take it to the range. If you got a new firearm, and haven’t yet made it to the range, do you know the two must do activities before shooting? 1, Read the Owner’s Manual. But I have lots of GLOCKS, why would I do that? I don’t know if there are any changes I’m not aware of, anything special about this one. Plus, there Read More >>
I confess that I’m addicted to Social Media. As such I’m in a couple firearms / shooting related groups. I’m constantly amazed when people post questions about what accessory to get for their gun looking to fix an accuracy or handling issue. For example, a recent post about someone who had too much muzzle rise with a GLOCK 17 and was looking at adding weights to the magazine plates or getting a new trigger. Um, save your money, spend 5 minutes with a GOOD instructor who will probably address grip issues and you will be a lot happier. The other way you have a more expensive Read More >>
I'm out for a very early morning walk with a woman friend. She does not shoot, though she is starting to show interest. We're walking down a long trail in a small city park, a large sprawling area with miles of trails, a lot of trees and a small river. A jogger passes us every 10 minutes or so, Barkley's intent on sniffing out a cheeseburger someone just had to have left behind on the trail. She's quiet and then the question comes out. She looked at me and said, "you're carrying, aren't you?". I looked down at a hip length winter jacket over a T shirt, and couldn't see the form Read More >>
The American College of Physicians is recommending solutions to what it says,"continues to be a public health crisis," and "Firearm violence continues to be a public health crisis in the United States that requires the nation's immediate attention." You would never know that murder rates are now below 1965 rates. To quote Snopes: FBI statistics show, in fact, that the 2015 murder rate was among the lowest of the past 47 years, and indeed the lowest of any year between 1965 and 2009. Their requests include: ACP supports strengthening and enforcing state and federal laws to Read More >>
It is that time of year again, Holiday Shopping. If you are like me, it is December and you aren’t even close to being ready. Hate the Mall? Me too! What to do? Gun Show. Come on, you know you are going anyway, they are a great source for gifts! You can find something for almost anyone, young, old, pro or anti-gun. I never advise buying a firearm for someone else, between individual preference, background check, registration, etc. However, there are more gifts at the gun show than guns! For the teenager in your life, a personal alarm they can hang on their backpack is a Read More >>
