Carry Options for Women

The times are changing, and a few companies are stepping up.  More and more women are coming to shooting and need options that work with dresses and other feminine garments.  And while my kydex-leather hybrid is fine for jeans or 5.11s, it doesn’t work as well with fitted business clothes.  Plus, sometimes, I just want to be feminine. Looper Law Enforcement  brought us the Flashbang, and a series of holsters that are designed specifically for women.  They work great, give us options, but still have a utilitarian feel. Femme Fatale Holsters just broke the model with beautiful lace Read More >>

Old School Fun – Smith and Wesson Model 41 .22LR, 5.5 inch heavy barrel

With the price and availability of ammunition at ridiculous levels, it falls to the lowly .22 caliber Long Rifle to satisfy the practice demands of a frustrated sporting public.  Pistol shooters have never had such a good selection of polymer framed revolvers and autoloaders in .22 to choose from.  But I like my pistols in steel and walnut, with hand-fitted parts and craftsmanship that companies can’t offer with today’s labor cost.  Let’s take a look at one of the best .22 handguns that Americahad to offer from the 2nd Golden Age of Firearms. I found this blued beauty sitting in Read More >>

Motorcycle Trip with Kitty Austin and “Gun Laws by State” by Bryan Ciyou (Part II)

The last time I talked about the first two states of my 21 day trip on a 1999 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic, again it is as much fun as anything else to do in the summer time. I do want to briefly update on Illinois – just as I finished submitting the blog Illinois’ Legislators overrode the veto by Governor Pat Quinn on the Federal appellate court order mandating that Illinois uphold the Second Amendment. Even though Illinois has this new legislation Chicago’s police superintendent still suggests that guns are the cause of the city’s violence. Has he ever heard of knives? What about just a Read More >>

Vintage Gun Ads on Huffington Post

The claim, they “will make you wince”. Their point was supposed to be about firearms used to be marketed in mass media, shamlessly. Gee, so were cigarettes, cigars, alcohol…and, ladies delicates used to be shown over the top of full coverage garments, compared to the “Angels” of Victoria’s (not so) Secret. I looked at the ads, and it brought a smile to my face. Many of them had a Norman Rockwell vintage feel to them, and it was nostalgic. It is a sign of how far we have come from our roots that firearms are vilified instead of respected in mass media. The Red Rider BB gun has Read More >>

Response to Violence – Citizens Are Pushing Back

Across the country, we have seen instances of random acts of violence, assaults on our homes, neighborhoods and communities.  They are frightening and remind us of our vulnerability to fall prey to selfish thugs who only care about themselves and what they can get with minimal effort.  They aren't interested in working for what they want, they want you to work for it so they can take it from you. There is a growing trend coast to coast.  Citizens are pushing back.  There are events such as Light the Night, Neighborhood Watch groups, and neighbors looking out of their windows in response Read More >>

The Value of a Multi-State Carry Permit – The Utah Concealed Firearm Permit

I am certain that you have heard of at least one story of someone carrying a firearm across their state lines and having to prove to the Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) in a neighboring State that they have a valid reciprocal permit and/or are not aware of the correct method of transporting a firearm across state lines. The truth is the majority of Law Enforcement Officers are not equipped with the entire United States’ firearms reciprocity list at that moment on the side of the road or immediately in their heads. Granted, several States are more lenient in that regard and others, not so Read More >>

Gun Whisperer – You Have Questions, We Have Answers

Dear Gun Whisperer, I live in a large apartment complex and I don’t want to call attention to myself going to the range, but all the range bags look so, well, gun-like. What a girl to do? Looking for Discretion... Dear Looking for Discretion, This is an easy question for me. I don’t always like to advertise to my neighbors, either. You can use almost anything as a range bag. A Beach Tote works well, a gym bag, a diaper bag (assuming you are no longer using it for a little one, babies and lead do not mix). 5.11 Tactical makes some great backpacks that are discrete and very Read More >>

Gun Whisperer – You Have Questions, We Have Answers

Dear GW, I think I should carry my gun all the time, at home and out and about. My husband thinks I’m deluded to carry at home, that we have good locks and an alarm, who needs a gun on their hip? Can you weigh in on this? Armed and Ready Dear Armed and Ready, I’m with you, carry wherever you legally can. Most of us recognize the dangers lurking outside our homes and understand that concern. However, the recent attack in NJ that was captured on a nanny-cam illustrates that danger can come to us, anywhere, anytime and without warning. The horrifying video showing the Read More >>

Our Friends at Elite Defense

As many readers of our GST, GSM, and GLBS blogs know, we practice what we preach which is to be educated about the products in the firearms’ marketplace. There is no substitute to being a conscientious gun owner and than knowing what is cutting edge in the market place–and shooting and finding out what works for you in any given situation. A few months ago, our friends at Elite Defense in Dexter, Michigan opened their warehouse doors--literally under lighting provided by flashlight after a water problem fried their electricity and delayed the backup generator from switching on–so we Read More >>
